Blogging success is just two steps away

by Paul Cunningham on January 16, 2009

Glenn Murray (@divinewrite) from Divine Write has recently published two items that together will lead to success for your blog.

Blogging Success!

Step 1 – Write sticky, memorable blog posts

Glenn wrote a guest post on Problogger this week titled 7 Tips on How to Write Sticky, Memorable Blog Posts.  You should read it.  In fact you should go and read it now.

The key points from the article are that your blog posts must:

  1. Be relevant to your visitor
  2. Be scannable and easy to read
  3. Have personality that stands out in the crowd
  4. Keep the reader thinking there is more to come
  5. Make it easy to find the “meat” of the article
  6. Demonstrate your professionalism
  7. Tell the reader when to stop reading

If you craft great content that follows these 7 tips you’ve completed step one of successful blogging.

Step 2 – Search Engine Optimisation

The new edition of Glenn’s SEO Secrets ebook was recently released.  SEO Secrets covers everything that you need to understand what SEO is and how to apply SEO fundamentals to your blog.

I’m reading my copy of SEO Secrets right now and already have a long list of SEO improvements to make on my blogs.  The book covers everything from choosing keywords, to writing your content, to optimising the latest version of WordPress.

You can check out the full table of contents and a sample chapter at Glenn’s website.

If you apply SEO to your blog you’ve completed step two of successful blogging.

Memorable Blog Posts + SEO = Blogging Success!

How do these two things create success for your blog?  Writing sticky, memorable posts means writing great content that readers will get value from for months or years to come.  But in order for readers to find your content you need good SEO so that your blog ranks highly in the search engines.

Read Glenn’s guest post at Problogger, and read his book SEO Secrets, and you’re well on the way to blogging success.
