Twitter and WordPress Integration Guide (free download)

by Paul Cunningham on March 5, 2009

There are many different techniques and plugins out there for integrating Twitter and WordPress, and so I’ve written this free guide to some of the ones that I used.

1743 downloads so far.

The Twitter and WordPress Integration Guide covers:

  • Twitter Badges – show your latest Tweets
  • Twitter Counter – display your follower count
  • Twitter Tools – automatically Tweet your new blog posts
  • Tweetmeme ReTweet – add a button or link your readers can use to quickly Tweet your blog post to their followers
  • Twitter ID in blog comments – lets your visitors leave their Twitter name when writing comments

Each section provides step by step instructions and screenshots to help you get your blog and Twitter account working together.

I hope you enjoy this guide and find it useful.  If you have any comments or questions about it please leave a comment below.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my feed to be automatically notified of updates to this guide and other WordPress tips.

Thanks for the write up. I am using TweetSuite now, but will take some of your advice.

Hi, Paul-

Thanks for being so generous with your advice! It’s very helpful. Especially to a newbie like me!

Thx for the guide, many cool ideas.

One integration I’m missing, and currently hunting to find, is a Twitter Badge, shown as a vertical ticker (auto scrolling). Anyone knows where to find this?

Thanks for sharing the great info. Still quite new to Twitter, and slowly getting there.

Cheers

Thanks so much! I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to do this and am glad for the help. I’m even happier to discover your blog. Great work here.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

@Henrik, I’m not sure about an auto scrolling version of the Twitter Badge. Maybe the Flash version does this?

Nice guide! Lately I’ve been using the Twitter For Wordpress plugin from Ricks Hideout to add Twitter to my Wordpress sidebars. You can check out the tutorial here: http://desndev.com/how-to-add-twitter-to-your-wordpress-blog-sidebar-in-3-easy-steps/

Nice work Dhane. I’ve been thinking of changing that part of the guide to a plugin in the next version of the guide, because I don’t always like the slow performance of the official Twitter widget.

This is a great idea to get email subscribers. I only use twitter tool.
